The Season so far.....

The season got off to a poor start at a wet and blustery Cannington with Mark Cording and Simon Holt getting the only win in a 4-1 (10-3) defeat, although three of the matches went to the 18th green. Poor form continued into the away match at Wheathill where some of us came up against a high-handicap putting masterclass with others struggling on the slow bumpy greens. The first two pairs out, Mark Cording again, this time partnered by Mike Hone, and the in-form duo of Dave Mugridge and John Wandless, both recorded wins but the hosts secured the last three matches to win 3-2 (8-6).

Any optimism was, however, dashed two days later when a whitewash ensued at Oake Manor when the hosts recorded the maximum 12 points. The next match saw the return fixture at CST and a chance for revenge that was duly taken as Steve Southgate & Mark Cording, Roger Hinds & Roger Davis, Dave Mugridge & John Wandless and Danny Dowell & Nick Clarke all recorded wins. This time Stuart Holt coupled with Ian Hildred was the only pair to taste defeat in a 4-1 (10-3) victory.

The first victory was followed up by an excellent winning draw at Long Sutton with Steve Southgate & Mark Cording again winning and Ian Hildred with Chris Gingell gaining a creditable half after being one down going up the 16th. The performance of the day though was by John Wandless who battled on alone after partner Dave Mugridge, who was unwell on arrival, took a turn for the worse and had to withdraw. John took up the challenge and came in with a fantastic 2&1 win to make the final score 2 1/2 - 2 1/2 (8 1/2 - 6 win).

The most recent match came at CST when the early season defeat against Cannington was avenged. In a much-changed team Rod Stevens & John Wandless had a massive 8&7 win, Roger Hinds & Roger Davis 5&4, Ian Hildred & Mark Cording 3&1 and Paul Taylor & Chris Gingell 3&2 for a 4-1 (10-3) win.

The side are now looking forward to the next home game against T&P before a well-earned month off.
